LEPROSY AWARENESS CAMP

Date: 02.02.2017              Venue: G. Venkataswamy Naidu College.

            A leprosy awareness camp  was  organized in connection with world leprosy day.             Dr. Yamuna, Mmedical Officer, Deputy Director of Medical Services (Leprosy), Thoothukudi created awareness about leprosy and  she said leprosy was  on the verge of elimination. Dr. Gurusamy, Medical Officer, Ilayarasanendal  elaborated on the various welfare measures available to patients. Later, leprosy pledge was taken by the Volunteers and guest. The NSS Volunteers actively interacted with doctors and understood the importance of removing the social stigma attached to leprosy patients.

EYE DONATION AWARENESS CAMP

To create awareness among the students for donating eyes,  an eye donation awareness camp organised by Lion Dr. J. Ganesh.  When a person’s cornea is donated, it would give vision to two to four corneally blind persons. Hence, people should donate the eyes of their family members in the event of their death so that the cornea, instead of getting buried or burnt would give vision to others, Dr.J. Ganesh emphasised among the students. Initially he telecasted a short movie to the students, questions were asked  in  this regard to  donation of eyes. The students who answered to those questions were honoured by giving mementos.

68th REPUBLIC DAY CELEBRATION

            The 68^th Republic day was celebrated with enthusiasm, Principal i/c                       Mrs. G. Adhilakshmi hoisted our National Flag. Staff and Students saluted the National flag and pledged to uphold honour, integrity, diversity and uniqueness of our country. Principal i/c Mrs. G. Adhilakshmi addressed the students and motivated them to do their best and  to feel proud to be an Indian. A group of students presented patriotic songs. Later, students  who  won in the National Voters Day competition were honoured by Principal. 

National Voters Day

Date: 25.01.2017      Venue: G. Venkataswamy Naidu College.

To promote the electoral participation, National Voters Day was celebrated in our College Campus. In this regard National Voters Day Pledge was taken by the NSS Volunteers, Students, Teaching and Non-Teaching Staff.  For ethical Electoral Participation  an Elocution and Essay Writing Competition on “Importance of Voting” was conducted. The winners of this competition were felicitated in the Republic Day Celebration. 

ONE DAY STATE LEVEL WORKSHOP ON “MUSHROOM CULTIVATION”

Date: 18,01,2017      Venue: G. Venkataswamy Naidu College.

NSS Unit 51 organized an one day hands on training workshop on ‘MUSHROOM CULTIVATION’, in collaboration with Entrepreneur Development Cell, for the NSS Volunteers and Local village people. Mr. R. Govindarajan, Senior Researcher, Department of Entomology, Loyola College, Chennai conducted the workshop.

In the inaugural session. Mrs. G. Adhilakshmi, Principal i/c delivered presidential address, Mr. G. Venkatachalapathy, Director (SFC) delivered felicitation. Trainer Mr. R. Govindarajan demonstrated Mushroom Growing House Demonstration, Practical demonstration, theory and audio video presentation. 

In the valedictory function Mr. R. Pradeep  John, Manager, Personal Loan, State Bank of India, Kovilpatti issued the certificates to the participants. Later, Mrs. D. Jeyabharathi, Convener of Entreprenurship Developmental Cell delivered felicitation address. Totally 150 NSS volunteers and 25 villagers participated in this workshop.
